Welcome! I’m Shawna Barlow, a passionate advocate for mental health and education. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Georgia and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Indiana University of South Bend. My journey has been deeply rooted in supporting individuals and communities through life’s challenges.

Before pursuing graduate studies, I spent a rewarding decade teaching high school special education to students with significant behavioral challenges and four years teaching high school psychology. These experiences gave me a profound understanding of the struggles people face—especially the isolation and sense of difference that can feel overwhelming. Having navigated my own dark times, I am committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel empowered to be open and honest.

I believe self-love and grace are vital, even if they don’t always come naturally. I specialize in working with young adults and adults facing depression, anxiety, addiction, and severe mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, psychosis, and personality disorders. Additionally, my personal experiences with adoption and infertility have given me unique insights into the complex emotions that accompany these journeys.

My therapeutic approach is strengths-based, focusing on clients’ unique talents and abilities. I aim to help my clients overcome struggles, develop strategies tailored to their needs, and discover their joy in daily life. My ultimate goal is to guide each person toward inner peace, contentment, and balance amid life’s pressures.
